Sunday Day 15 - Bettendorf to Oakville - 50 miles

I slept in a little this morning, until 7:30 am. I came up from the basement at Joan and Jerry's basement and had a wonderfully breakfast. Fresh poached eggs, fresh blackberries, homemade cinnamon bread and coffee.

I did a load of laundry and packed up the bike to hit the road. Mike and Kendra came by to get their things packed to take home to Sarasota. I said Goodbye to Jerry and Joan, two of my favorite people in Iowa.

I road my bicycle about a mile to the local Hy-Vee, and had a nice meal with Mike, Kendra, and Kendra's Parents. What a fun group they are ! We said goodbyes again and I headed off to the Mississippi River, following the "Ride There" app on my I-Phone.

It was a great ride today, heading out of Davenport on the "Duck Creek Bike Trail", then East on Hwy Y48 to Hwy 22 which runs along the Mississipi River thru Buffalo, Montpelier, Fairport, and into Muscatine.

Muscatine is the official Northern starting point for the Adventure Cyclist "Great River" bicycling route. I stopped in the Hubbles Bar in downtown Muscatine to have a few beers, some popcorn, and update the last 3 days of my blog. I have either been too busy, too tired, or had no service the past few days, so I got a little behind !!

I am going to head south towards Oakville on Hwys X71 and X61, probably primitive camping along the way tonight.

10:00 pm update. I did not make it all the way to Oakville tonight. I ran out of daylight about 10 miles south of Muscatine, so I rode a mile towards the river to a primitive campground called Flaming Prairie County Park.

Well, the sun is down, and a jillion mosquitos are out for my blood. Too late to go anywhere else so I put up tent, took a baby wipe bath and went to bed. I saw a mouse climbing up the wall in the pit toilet bathroom, and he has been chewing up toilet paper for quite a while. I am sure I am only one stupid enough to have camped here in a long time.

Oh well, I am inside my tent now, with the fly off and it is cooling down a bit. There are a lot of animal noises, and you can also hear the barges humming as they head up the Mississippi. Good Night !!
